Austin Burton, 19, of Pampa, Texas, died from a gunshot wound on October 21, 2017. He was shot in the 1100 block of South Dwight Street early that Saturday morning and was pronounced dead at 1:45 a.m. at Pampa Regional Medical Center. An autopsy was scheduled in Lubbock for the following Monday.
Following the shooting, 21-year-old Tomarius Embers of Borger was arrested and charged with Criminal Negligent Homicide. Embers was held in the Gray County Jail on $25,000 bond. The charge alleges negligent rather than intentional conduct led to Burton’s death; local law enforcement and the Gray County District Attorney’s office were involved in the investigation and in assembling the case.
The community in Pampa mourned the loss of a young man. If anyone witnessed the shooting that morning on South Dwight Street or has information about events leading up to October 21, please share what is known.
