David Allan Oakes, a 49-year-old cabinet maker from Rhome, Texas, died on August 18, 2017. He is remembered by family and friends and was buried at DFW National Cemetery after a funeral service. His survivors include his wife Kelly and their three children Alexzandra Isabelle, William Wyatt, and Sophie Grace Oakes.
The case was later prosecuted; the victim’s son, William Wyatt Oakes, was 18 at the time of the incident and claimed he fired multiple shots inside the family home, asserting self-defense. A jury rejected that defense and convicted him of murder. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
What does anyone who knew David or the family remember about his life or the events leading up to August 18, 2017?
