Mike Ramos Sr., 52, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was found fatally shot on July 27, 2017, lying in a pool of blood by the front door of his home in the 3700 block of Brandywine Court. Medical examiners determined a single gunshot wound to the chest was the cause of death.
A 36-year-old man, Jacob Nunez, was arrested and charged in the killing. Witnesses reported seeing someone matching Nunez’s description running down the road with a gun that day. Nunez was located at a friend’s home wearing black sweat pants that matched witnesses’ descriptions. Court testimony noted Nunez and Ramos’ daughter had previously been in a relationship and that Nunez had pulled a knife on her in April 2017. At trial the prosecution argued Nunez’s anger toward Ramos’ daughter could have been a motive; the defense said the investigation was lackadaisical and asserted Nunez loved Ramos Sr.
