Eric Torrez, a 41-year-old Hispanic man from Abilene, Texas, was killed on July 21, 2017, after being lured into a trap tied to a plot to take his juvenile daughter from his custody.

Stephen Jennings reportedly contacted Torrez with a false offer of construction work to get him out of Taylor County. Torrez was taken to Jennings’ residence, where he was tied up, beaten and, during a confrontation, shot in the head by Stephen Jennings. His body was later found in a field along Highway 163 south of Barnhart.

The five named suspects were arrested and charged with capital murder, aggravated kidnapping and tampering with a human corpse. If anyone knew Eric, his daughter’s custody situation at the time, or saw activity near Highway 163 south of Barnhart around July 21, 2017, please come forward with information.
