Jeremy Cornwell, a 43-year-old plumber from La Grange, Texas, was shot and killed at the front door of his home on Creamer Creek Road on July 5, 2017. His body was found the next day by his mother, Karen Cornwell, after he failed to show up for work. Reports say he was shot seven times.
Investigators say the killing was tied to a dispute over a .380 firearm that a man identified as Dylan David Nelson believed had been given to a local teen, Tessa Mangis. Nelson allegedly drove from the Houston area to La Grange, confronted Cornwell—whose son Josh Thomas was a mutual friend—and shot him. Surveillance footage and a traffic accident on Interstate 10 west of Sealy were part of the timeline; the murder weapon and a cell phone were reportedly discarded near the TA Truck Stop and later recovered.
At trial, testimony and physical evidence including matching ballistics and text messages were presented. A jury convicted Dylan David Nelson of first-degree murder and sentenced him to life in prison plus a $10,000 fine. Anyone who knew Jeremy, his routines, or who saw relevant activity in La Grange on July 5, 2017, is asked to come forward.
