On May 13, 2017, 56-year-old Jose Augusto Lozada was fatally shot outside his home in Magnolia, Texas after what began as a minor traffic collision that escalated into a road rage confrontation. Lozada, a Hispanic male, was shot multiple times in the head and torso by Christopher Delacruz, a 21-year-old Magnolia resident who followed Lozada to his residence, retrieved a semi-automatic pistol from his vehicle, and fired during a heated argument.

Delacruz was arrested and charged with murder; the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office initially described the incident as road rage. At trial the defense argued self-defense, and on June 7, 2018 a jury found Delacruz not guilty, concluding he acted believing he needed to defend himself, his wife, and his child. Lozada’s family called the killing unnecessary and avoidable.

Are there witnesses or additional details about the collision and the confrontation that could clarify how events escalated?
