Juan Borja was a 13-year-old Hispanic boy from Freeport, Texas, who died of a gunshot wound on April 19, 2017, while at Peppermint Park. A 14-year-old then pointed the gun at Borja and fired once, striking him in the chest.
Freeport police arrested that 14-year-old on manslaughter and tampering with evidence charges. Investigators also arrested Leslie Jaime, 35, and two other juveniles, ages 13 and 14, on multiple counts of burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm after tracing the weapon to a theft from a trailer home used as a storage facility in the City of Jones Creek. Authorities recovered 14 stolen firearms and said more were believed missing.
The death prompted counseling services from the Brazosport Independent School District for students and staff. Does anyone have information about the thefts or the firearms recovered that could help clarify what happened at the park?
