Damion Hopkins, 27, was killed in a shooting outside the Empire Club in Harker Heights, Texas, on March 4, 2017. The shooting followed an altercation in the club’s parking lot after Hopkins and another man, 42-year-old Dexter Prather of Waco, reportedly got into a dispute while playing dice.
A 29-year-old woman from Waco, Olishea Lashawn Smith, was later identified in connection with the incident and turned herself in after a murder warrant was issued. Smith was convicted of the double murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison in December 2018. Hopkins’s family describe him as a loving, funny person who had been visiting his hometown to reconnect with friends and relatives; his brother Markeeis Hopkins has said Damion’s legacy should be the man he was, not the way he died.
If anyone knew Damion while he was in Harker Heights or saw activity around the Empire Club on March 4, 2017, please share information that might help the family find more closure.
