Emerick Glen Dworaczyk, 27, of Sealy, Texas, was shot and killed on February 14, 2017. Born March 27, 1990, in Richmond, Texas, he enjoyed motorcycles, video games and learning guitar, and attended BF Terry High School. Officers found him deceased in the 1200 block of N. Meyer Street after a reported shooting; three people were detained for questioning and the Texas Rangers assisted the investigation. Authorities said there was no immediate threat to the public.

Investigators concluded that John Jones, 28, of Sealy, aimed and fired a gun in Emerick’s direction, striking him. Jones at times told police he fired a warning shot that accidentally hit Emerick and at other times asserted self-defense. A jury rejected those defenses and found Jones guilty of deadly conduct; in July 2021 an Austin County jury sentenced Jones to 10 years in prison.
