Jarrett Paul Parker, 33, of Edna, Texas, died from a gunshot wound to the chest on February 7, 2017; a preliminary autopsy ruled his death a homicide. He was born September 15, 1983, in Victoria, Texas, and was a fourth-generation veteran who served as a Tech Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. His funeral was held February 12, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Edna and he was buried in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery.

Investigators identified his girlfriend, Amber Nicole Sorenson, as involved in the death. Sorenson was arrested and charged with his murder; her case, Amber Nicole Sorenson v. The State of Texas, was heard in the 24th District Court of Jackson County and later appealed to the Texas Court of Appeals, Thirteenth District.
