Dairl W. Butler III, an 18-year-old from DeSoto, Texas, was shot and killed on January 13, 2017. The shooting occurred at his home in the 1300 block of Essex Drive; after being shot he traveled to the 7200 block of Marvin D. Love Freeway, where his body was found in an apartment complex. He was taken to a nearby hospital but died of his injuries.

Authorities say the shooting followed an attempted robbery by 20-year-old Antonio Chandler. Chandler allegedly tried to rob Butler, who refused, and gunfire ensued. Chandler was arrested the next day, charged with capital murder, held at the Dallas County Lew Sterrett Justice Center on $500,000 bond, and had no prior criminal history. Investigators executed a search warrant at Chandler’s residence and collected evidence they believed related to the crime. Friends and family held a candlelight vigil; this was the first murder of 2017 in DeSoto.

Did anyone in DeSoto know Butler or have information about the events on January 13, 2017?
