Lorraine Diaz, a 21-year-old Hispanic woman from Richmond, Texas, was found shot to death in the trunk of a burning car on January 11, 2017. The vehicle was located in a rural area off FM 766, south of George Ranch High School. Diaz, a mother of two young children, was identified after firefighters extinguished the blaze; the scene was described as a gruesome murder and investigators said the condition of the scene initially made the probe difficult.
For years the case remained unsolved. On November 29, 2022, authorities arrested Johnny Minh Dang, who had been Diaz’s boyfriend at the time of her death, and charged him with first-degree murder. Dang, 33 at arrest, had been considered a prime suspect early on but was not charged until new information gathered by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers led to the 2022 arrest. He is being held at the Fort Bend County Jail on $500,000 bond and additional charges are expected.
What anyone who knew Lorraine, her routines, or the people in her life around January 2017 can share that might help fill in remaining gaps?
