Oscar Salazar, a 20-year-old Hispanic man from Magnolia, Texas, was shot and killed at his home in the 29000 block of Aberdeen on December 26, 2016. The shooter was identified as Nelson Segovia-Amaya, 30, who fled the scene but was arrested about two hours later while driving a vehicle that matched witness descriptions.
The case proceeded to trial. A jury found Segovia-Amaya guilty of murder, and on August 17, 2018, Judge Phil Grant sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole. During the trial, Salazar’s father, German Enrique Huezo Reyes, testified about his son’s caring nature and the deep impact of the loss on the family. A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office detective noted Segovia-Amaya showed no emotion when told of the charges.
The killing is described as the result of a violent altercation with his step-brother. Does anyone have information about Oscar’s life in Magnolia or the events that led up to that night?
