Raul Garcia, a 35-year-old Hispanic man from Elgin, Texas, was shot and killed during an early morning robbery on November 25, 2016. Also known as Abel Garza, he was found lying on the floor at the entrance of his house with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. A witness said a man approached Garcia, demanded money, and, when Garcia refused, pulled out a gun and shot him; the suspect fled on foot. The suspect was described as a Black male wearing a dark-colored hoodie.
The Elgin Police Department developed a person of interest and opened an intensive investigation, with assistance from the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office and the Bastrop Police Department and plans to call in the Texas Rangers. Family members described Garcia as a nice person who did not have problems with anyone and continue to hope for justice. The case remains unsolved; anyone with information is asked to come forward.
