Jacob Marshall Fancher, 35, of Palestine, Texas, was killed on November 12, 2016, during a hunting party at a ranch in Anderson County. A correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Fancher was married to Monica Wischmann Fancher and was the father of three young children: Alexis, Connor, and Jonathan. He was born April 18, 1981, in Prescott, Arizona, and remembered by colleagues and friends for his kindness and sense of humor.
The shooting was described as accidental but caused by negligent, reckless firearm handling by fellow hunter Roy Anton Eppeland, who discharged his weapon and struck Fancher. Legal filings also implicate the property owner, identified only as John Doe in court documents, for failing to maintain a safe environment for guests engaged in firearm activities. Monica Fancher filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Eppeland and the unidentified owner alleging breaches of duty of care and preventable negligence.
Does anyone have information about the hunting party, safety measures on that ranch, or remembered details from that day that could help the family or clarify what happened?
