Julian Garcia was a 3-year-old Hispanic boy from Rio Grande City, Texas, who died after being shot on November 7, 2016. He and his father, 41-year-old Hector Garcia Jr., were shot inside their Ford F-250 pickup at an intersection on November 6, 2016; Julian was pronounced dead the next day at Starr County Memorial Hospital.
The investigation produced an arrest: 17-year-old Jesus Angel Rebollar was charged in the case. At trial jurors heard evidence that Rebollar fired more than 40 shots into the truck; an eyewitness identified him by appearance and clothing. A jury convicted Rebollar of two counts of capital murder and in 2019 imposed two life sentences without the possibility of parole. An appeal raising challenges to the eyewitness identification and sufficiency of the evidence was rejected and the sentences were upheld; Rebollar is serving his sentence in the Telford Unit in Rosharon, Texas.
