On September 1, 2016, George Koumbis, 63, the owner of Shooters Depot in Corpus Christi, Texas, was fatally shot during an armed robbery at his gun store. The attack happened between 8 and 9 p.m.; a 38-year-old male employee was also shot and seriously wounded. Suspects stole firearms and Koumbis’s black Mercedes, which was later found abandoned with the stolen weapons inside.

Investigators arrested four men in connection with the case: Truanser Hughes, 19; Filamir Gomez Jr., 20; Jeremiah Jenkins, 28; and Darien Marshall, 22. Hughes was taken into custody on an unrelated aggravated robbery charge and later charged with capital murder. Gomez was arrested in San Diego about a week after the shooting, and Marshall surrendered to police on September 10, 2016. Each faced capital murder charges with bond set at $1 million.

Koumbis was known locally as a weapons manufacturer and described as intelligent, kind, and honest, with a passion for designing firearms. His death was reported as a significant loss to family, friends, and the community.
