Jaime Lizandro Vargas, a 38-year-old Hispanic man, was shot and killed on August 23, 2016, in Pharr, Texas, during an argument on the 400 block of East Egly Avenue. The dispute involved a woman and stemmed from overlapping romantic relationships; the preliminary investigation reported that 66-year-old Aniceto Sanchez Jr., who was romantically involved with the same woman and is her ex-husband, shot Vargas. Vargas was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Jaime ’Jerry’ Munoz.
Aniceto Sanchez Jr. was arrested and charged with murder; bond was set at $200,000. The case drew attention locally, with multiple court appearances and testimony presented as authorities worked to establish the sequence of events that led to Vargas’s death. Family and friends remembered Vargas as a loving father and community member.
Does anyone have information about Vargas’s movements that day or witnessed the argument on East Egly Avenue?
