Jean Frottier, 63, a commercial fisherman from Wellfleet, Massachusetts, was lost at sea on November 18, 2012, after his scalloping vessel Twin Lights capsized off Provincetown, near Race Point. Frottier and his deckhand, Eric Rego, were working when the boat encountered trouble, likely from entangled gear. Rego was rescued by a nearby vessel, but Frottier disappeared as the boat sank.
The U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities conducted extensive aerial and sea searches, but Frottier’s body was never recovered. A foot later washed ashore, and a death certificate was issued. He was a seasoned fisherman whose loss deeply affected the Wellfleet and Provincetown fishing communities. The exact cause of the capsizing remains unclear, though it is presumed to have been an accidental equipment failure.
If anyone witnessed the Twin Lights or has information about events near Race Point on November 18, 2012, please come forward.
