Gilberto Garcia Garces, a 44-year-old Hispanic man from Progreso, Texas, was found dead near a levee south of Expressway 83 in Mercedes on April 7, 2016; he had been killed the previous day. Investigators concluded Garces had been kidnapped from a tire shop in Mercedes, taken to the levee and suffered multiple gunshot wounds and blunt force trauma after being beaten during a struggle.
Two men, Adalberto Mosqueda Guardado and Ramiro Garcia Lopez, were convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life without parole. Testimony at Mosqueda’s trial stated Garces owed nearly $40,000 to Garcia Lopez, who owned the tire shop where Garces was taken. Two other named suspects, Sergio Medrano and Mauricio Vidal, remain fugitives and are believed to have had significant roles in the killing.
Does anyone have information about Medrano or Vidal’s whereabouts or witnessed the events at the tire shop that day?
