Felix Antonio Nieves, 17, was shot and killed inside his New Braunfels, Texas home on March 27, 2016 during a domestic disturbance that began with an argument between him and his mother, Jennifer Coryell. His stepfather, George Alexander Coryell, witnessed the disturbance, retrieved a shotgun and shot Nieves twice, killing him instantly. Two other children, ages 15 and 12, were in the home and were placed in protective care.
George Coryell was arrested and charged with murder and held in the Guadalupe County Jail on $250,000 bond. Jennifer Coryell was later charged with murder and eventually pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter; both parents entered plea agreements that spared them prison and included probation, fines, and mandated substance abuse treatment. The case generated local criticism over the plea outcomes and conflicting accounts from family members and the children present.
Anyone who knew Felix, the family, or who was familiar with the household in New Braunfels around March 2016 is asked to share what they know.
