Lourdes M. Luna, a 33-year-old Hispanic woman, was found dead in her Rio Grande City home on March 23, 2016. Her colleague Oneida Balderas Garza, 44, who also worked for the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District, was found with her. Both women were discovered bound and shot in the head in what has been described as an execution-style killing. The bodies were located after the women were inside between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. that morning.

The Texas Rangers took over the investigation. Starr County District Attorney Omar Escobar said multiple people have been interviewed but no arrests had been made; a reward for information leading to an arrest and successful prosecution was increased to $20,000. The district and community held a vigil, planted memorial trees, and unveiled a bench bearing the women’s likenesses.

The case remains unsolved and continues to be a priority for investigators. If anyone knew Lourdes Luna or has information that could help the investigation, please come forward.
