On March 23, 2016, Oneida Alanis Balderas Garza, 44, and Lourdes M. Elizondo, 33, were found dead inside a residence on the 200 block of Ebony Court in Rio Grande City, Texas. Both women, employees of the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District—Garza a compliance officer and Elizondo an accountant—were discovered bound at the wrists and shot execution-style in the head at about 9:30 a.m.
The Texas Rangers took over the investigation and the Starr County District Attorney’s Office has been involved. No suspects have been officially named. Authorities described the case as requiring more scientific evidence; a reward for information was raised from $10,000 to $20,000. The murders deeply affected the community; the school district canceled board meetings and extracurricular activities as it mourned.
What information might help move this investigation forward for Garza and Elizondo?
