Brennan Weikel, 17, died on March 14, 2016, in Bridgeport, Texas, in an accidental hunting incident. A senior at Weatherford High School and a football player who hoped to play at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, Brennan was described as positive, adventurous, and someone who brought people together.
The shooting happened during an overnight hunting trip on Brennan’s spring break. His stepfather, James Chambers, thought he had shot an animal and texted Brennan to help retrieve it. Shortly after, Chambers heard a single gunshot and found Brennan with a fatal head wound. Investigators determined the rifle discharged accidentally; the death was ruled an accident and no arrests or criminal investigation were pursued.
Brennan is survived by his mother Angela Chambers, stepfather James Chambers, and younger brothers Caleb, Ethan, and James III. Does anyone who knew Brennan or his family have memories or information to share that could honor his life?
