Peter James Mielke was 19 when he was shot and killed while working at Reginelli’s Pizzeria in Bellaire, Texas, on February 21, 2016. A sports broadcasting student who had played high school football, he was at the register during a robbery when 26-year-old Kiara Taylor entered about closing time and demanded that he open the cash drawer. Surveillance footage shows Taylor shooting Peter multiple times after he was unable to open the register, then re-entering the restaurant and shooting him again before fleeing.

Taylor, who was on parole and had an extensive criminal record, was identified after her sister recognized her on the surveillance video and she was arrested and charged with capital murder. At her first court appearance on March 10, 2016, she was held without bail. Peter’s family, including his mother Dana Mielke, spoke publicly and the case prompted criticism of the parole system.

If anyone was in the area that night or has information about the robbery, please share what is known.
