Dominique Quay Shawne Adams, 22, was found in critical condition with gunshot wounds near South Fourth Street and Avenue H in Lamesa, Texas, on February 16, 2016. He was transported for medical care but died before arriving at the hospital.
The investigation produced charges against Joe Johnson, a 17-year-old from Lamesa. Prosecutors said an argument between Johnson and Adams escalated and Johnson fired multiple shots; two bullets struck Adams and proved fatal. A Dawson County grand jury indicted Johnson on murder and aggravated assault counts. In April 2018 a jury convicted Johnson of murder and imposed a life sentence with a minimum of 30 years before parole eligibility. Evidence at the punishment phase included a rap song Johnson wrote while jailed titled Ballad of a Killer.
The case drew attention in the community around youth violence and consequences. If anyone knew Dominique or has information about that night in February 2016, please come forward.
