On January 19, 2016, 4-year-old Bryson Hernandez of Cypress, Texas, was visiting his grandparents’ home in northwest Harris County when he found a firearm and it discharged, striking him in the head. Emergency responders arrived shortly after midnight at a residence in the 15400 block of Redbud Berry Way and rushed Bryson to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he died on January 21, 2016.

Family members remembered Bryson as a sweet little boy who loved his family and adored Iron Man; he was buried in his Iron Man costume and, through organ donation, reportedly saved the lives of several other children. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigated how he accessed the gun and said the grandparents were cooperating; investigators planned to present findings to a grand jury. Children’s Protective Services opened a separate inquiry and reported no prior contact with the family. No arrests had been announced at the time of reporting.

Does anyone have information about this case or remember the neighborhood around Redbud Berry Way in 2016 that could help clarify how the firearm was stored?
