Brenda Maxie Hardiman, a 50-year-old African American woman, was fatally shot in her Redwater, Texas home on January 11, 2016. A 16-year-old boy, Phillip McBride, fired a shotgun randomly into the residence; Brenda was struck and died. Also in the house at the time were her husband, Levester Hardiman, his 92-year-old mother, and the elderly woman’s nurse.

McBride was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase and was charged with murder. A psychologist concluded he did not meet the standards for certification as an adult offender, so his case was handled in juvenile court. He pleaded guilty to murder and additional counts including evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a vehicle, residential burglary, and assault on a peace officer, and received the maximum juvenile sentence of 40 years. A Bowie County district judge will later decide near McBride’s 19th birthday whether to transfer him to a Texas Department of Criminal Justice unit to serve the remainder of his term.

Brenda’s funeral was held January 16, 2016, at Saint Paul C.M.E. Church with burial at Pinegrove Cemetery. Does anyone have information about Brenda, her family, or the events that led up to that night?
