Ernesto Xavier Avitia, a 28-year-old Hispanic man from Pharr, Texas, was found dead at his home on the 6800 block of South Lorenzo Street on January 19, 2015. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and the death was investigated as a homicide by the Pharr Police Department.

Investigators later arrested 32-year-old acquaintance Rodrigo Eugenio Reyes and charged him with capital murder, alleging the shooting followed a confrontation at Avitia’s home that began after an altercation involving Reyes’ girlfriend and escalated into a physical fight. Court documents describe Reyes’ account that the confrontation led to the shooting.
