On October 8, 2015, 36-year-old Javed Nizamani was fatally shot at Barrett Grocery Store in Barrett Station, Texas during an argument with a group of men loitering outside the store. Javed and his relative, Shazaib Shawn Nizamani, who also worked at the store, had earlier told one of the men, John Larue Simpson, he was not allowed inside. About 20 minutes later Simpson returned armed and fired multiple shots through a broken store window, striking both Shawn and Javed. Javed was flown by Life Flight to a hospital but later died of his injuries.
Simpson fled the scene but was arrested a week later and charged with murder; he was convicted in 2018 and given a life sentence, with the jury rejecting a sudden passion instruction. The shooting prompted a brief lockdown at two nearby schools, Drew Intermediate and Barrett Primary School. Family and friends remembered Javed as a kind, hardworking man and a father of two.
If anyone knew Javed, his family, or witnessed what happened that day, please share information that could help complete the record.
