Ignacio Rodriguez, 50, was shot and killed during an early-morning robbery at a Corpus Christi convenience store on October 4, 2015. Rodriguez, a clerk working around 3 a.m., was reportedly shot after three suspects entered the store, appeared to make a purchase, then robbed him when he opened the register. The suspects fled after the shooting.
On the day of the killing, police arrested James Elizalde at his Corpus Christi home and charged him with capital murder; he was reportedly held on a $1 million bond. The two other suspects were located and released, though detectives did not rule out pursuing charges against them. Surveillance footage and witness statements were cited in building the case against Elizalde.
Known to friends and customers as Iggy, Rodriguez had a long career in sales and was remembered for his friendly demeanor and dedication to work. His death prompted memorials and community support for the family. If anyone has information about the robbery or the people involved, please share what you know.
