Deputy Darren H. Goforth, 47, was shot to death on the night of August 28, 2015, while pumping gas at a Chevron station in Cypress, Texas. He was in uniform and was approached from behind by Shannon J. Miles, 30, who fired multiple times; witnesses said Miles continued shooting after Goforth had fallen. The attack was described as cold-blooded and unprovoked, and Miles reportedly had no known connection to Goforth and no clear motive was established.

Miles, who had a lengthy criminal record and a prior finding of incompetence to stand trial in a separate matter, was arrested the following day after the murder weapon was recovered in his garage. During the investigation it emerged that a passenger in Goforth’s car at the time was a woman with whom he was having an extramarital relationship; that revelation led to discipline and investigations of other officers. Goforth, a ten-year veteran, was survived by his wife Kathleen and two children, ages five and twelve.

Does anyone have information about the moments before the shooting or about witnesses who have not yet been contacted?
