James Wright, 45, was found dead inside his small rental home at 810 South Sledge Street in Kyle, Texas, on the evening of June 25, 2015, after family requested a welfare check. Officers forced entry and discovered two bodies: Wright in the hallway and 44-year-old Tina Combs in the master bedroom. Autopsies determined both deaths were homicides; Wright died instantly of a gunshot wound to the head, while Combs suffered both gunshot and stab wounds.

Early inquiries identified two persons of interest, including Larry Simon, who knew Wright. Investigators later credited thousands of hours of work and assistance from the Texas Rangers leading to an arrest: on February 3, 2021, Simon, then 47, was charged with two counts of capital murder. Court action on March 4, 2024, resulted in dismissal of the capital murder charge against Simon for further investigation, leaving no active prosecution as of that date.

Anyone with memories of Wright, Combs, the neighborhood, or information about the night of June 25, 2015, is asked to come forward.
