Samantha is described as loving, independent, and adventurous; she enjoyed the outdoors and swimming and was close to her two sons, Elijah Sanchez and Julian Gage Vasquez. On December 3, 2019, two men — Joseph Austin Jr., 23, and De Hieu Nguyen, 41, both from Louisiana — were arrested and charged with capital murder; officers identified Austin as the shooter and Nguyen as the getaway driver.
