John Allen Franco, 24, was found shot in the head in his car on May 20, 2015, after the vehicle crashed in a ravine in Liberty City, Gladewater, Texas. The wreck was first treated as a one-vehicle accident until the gunshot wound prompted investigators to reclassify the death as a homicide.
Investigators say the shooting grew out of a threat Franco allegedly made to release nude photos of the stepdaughter of Jessie Clifford Brown, 42, of Kilgore. Arrest documents state Brown and two other men pursued Franco that night; when they caught up to his car Brown allegedly approached the driver’s side with a gun, and Franco reversed abruptly, breaking the window before he was found shot.
A tip to authorities in August 2017 named people allegedly involved and led to Brown’s arrest in October 2017; he entered a not guilty plea. What more is known about the two other men said to have pursued Franco, and who else might have information about that night?
