Larry Hostetter was a 41-year-old deputy with the Montague County Sheriff’s Office who was shot and killed on February 9, 2015, after a Nocona police officer responded to a disturbance at Hostetter’s home. Hostetter was off duty at the time and was described in reports as suicidal.

The Texas Rangers took over the investigation, and the officer involved was placed on administrative leave; the officer was not injured. Hostetter was pronounced dead at Nocona General Hospital about an hour after the shooting. Sheriff Paul Cunningham described Hostetter as a dedicated officer who had worked for the sheriff’s department since 2013 and been in law enforcement since 2000. He was a married father of three children.

The Rangers’ investigation was to determine the circumstances and whether the use of force was justified, with findings to be presented to the district attorney for review. Does anyone have additional details about the incident, Hostetter’s background, or the outcome of the investigation?
