Joshua Edward Vidales, 27, was shot and killed inside a residence on Macdona Lacoste Road in Atascosa, Texas, on January 1, 2015. A second person was wounded and taken to the hospital in connection with the same incident.

Authorities identified 37-year-old Ignacio Ruiz as the suspect. Ruiz fled to the Mexican border town of Piedras Negras after the shooting. Reports say he took a taxi to leave Texas, shot the taxi driver after seeing police in the area, and led officers on a high-speed chase before being forced off the road. Ruiz was later captured in Mexico after a shootout that killed a Piedras Negras police officer and injured several others. He was on parole at the time for an attempted capital murder of a police officer. Ruiz was accompanied by Janel Cerda, who was arrested; some reports describe her as his girlfriend while Ruiz claimed he had forced her to accompany him after killing her cousin.

Vidales is survived by his parents Eddie and Sandra Vidales and sisters Kimberly and Kamerie Vidales. Does anyone have information about Joshua or the events that night that could help clarify what happened?
