Jimmy Castro-Almazan, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, was shot and killed on December 15, 2014, in the 1200 block of Paco Trail in Denton, Texas. The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m.; a witness heard gunshots and found Castro-Almazan on the ground. He was taken to Denton Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The suspect is a 16-year-old boy who turned himself in to Denton police shortly after the incident and is being held at Denton County Juvenile Detention. Reports say both men lived on Paco Trail; during a confrontation the suspect allegedly produced a small-caliber firearm and fired multiple shots, striking Castro-Almazan once. No charges had been filed as of the time of these reports and investigators had not disclosed what led to the confrontation.
Castro-Almazan leaves a wife and an 18-month-old daughter. His wife, Jessica Almazan, described him as smart, funny and caring and said he was running away from the suspect when he was shot; she heard two shots and held him as he died. Did anyone who lived on Paco Trail in December 2014 see or hear anything that could help clarify what happened that night?
