Dominique Brooks, 24, was fatally shot in the chest on the afternoon of December 5, 2014, while sitting on the porch of a residence on Railroad Street in Nacogdoches. Several people were present on the porch; Brooks was not involved in the altercation that triggered the shooting.
Authorities say 19-year-old Marcus Shwayne Issac had been in an earlier confrontation with a resident of that house, left, then returned armed and began firing in retaliation as he walked down the street. Brooks was later seen driving a Mercury Grand Marquis earlier that day; that same vehicle was found at the end of County Road 3215 in Shelby County. Issac turned himself in at the Shelby County Jail and was booked on a murder charge; he had prior convictions including evading arrest with a previous conviction and burglary of a vehicle.
The case attracted attention locally because an apparently retaliatory attack on the street resulted in the death of someone not involved in the dispute. Anyone with information about Brooks, the shooting, or the movements of the Mercury Grand Marquis is asked to share what they know.
