Daniel Salazar Burnias, a 30-year-old Hispanic man, was found dead on December 2, 2014, after his vehicle struck a tree near the International Boulevard exit on Expressway 83 in Weslaco, Texas. Investigators reported multiple bullet holes in the vehicle and several gunshot wounds on his body; an autopsy concluded the gunshot wounds were the cause of death and the case was classified as a homicide.
The case stayed cold for years until a tip to the Weslaco Police Department in March 2020 from the Los Fresnos Police Department, relayed by a woman named Karen Sanchez Landeros, suggested her husband Alberto Davila might be involved. In May 2022 Alberto Davila, described as a 50-year-old man, was arrested in Los Fresnos on a murder charge and held on $1 million bond. Records cited with the arrest note prior convictions for unlawful possession of a firearm and drug possession. A second suspect, a minor at the time of the incident, was also taken into custody; that individual’s identity has not been disclosed.
Investigators continue to gather evidence as the case moves forward. If anyone knew Daniel, his movements in late 2014, or has information about the people named, please share what is known.
