Ronald Thomas Barnes, a 60-year-old white male and Marine Corps veteran, was found beaten to death in his home on Ives Street in Vidor, Texas, on June 7, 2014. A native of Berea, Ohio, Barnes had moved to Houston as a teenager and lived in Vidor with his twin brother. The death was ultimately ruled a murder.

Investigators identified several persons of interest during the probe. Shanna King, a woman in her 40s with a noticeable scar on her lip, was arrested on unrelated warrants and named as a person of interest. Romeo Johnson, 36, and Brandon Dodd, 39, were later arrested and charged with Barnes’s murder; Johnson was already jailed on unrelated charges when charged, and Dodd was taken into custody after a joint effort by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service. Bonds were set at $850,000 each for Johnson and Dodd. The investigation remains active and law enforcement is seeking additional information.
