Edward Charles Hermann, a 41-year-old man from Belton, Texas, was found dead in Temple, Texas, on June 5, 2014. He had been shot in the forehead with a small caliber handgun, and the circumstances prompted a criminal investigation.

The primary suspect was 61-year-old Karl Lee Wiggins, who was charged in the shooting. Wiggins entered a guilty plea during proceedings before 27th District Judge John Gauntt, which concluded the trial and resulted in a conviction for Hermann’s murder. An appeal to the Texas Court of Appeals, Third District, was heard and the conviction was upheld.
