Anthony Cain Macias, 33, of Corpus Christi, Texas, died on April 30, 2014. A sketch artist and painter, he is survived by his wife Deborah Escobedo-Macias, their four children and other family and friends.

Authorities say the death followed an incident at the home of 24-year-old Courtney Hayden of Corpus Christi. Hayden called police and reported she had shot Macias after he broke into her home and attempted to rob her; she claimed self-defense. Police, however, concluded the shooting occurred during a dispute over the proceeds of a robbery the two had allegedly committed about a week earlier. A Nueces County grand jury indicted Hayden for first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

At trial in November 2015 Hayden pled guilty to aggravated robbery and received a 10-year sentence; the jury found her guilty of murder. Defense lawyers later showed the lead prosecutor failed to disclose evidence favorable to Hayden, and the judge found the district attorney’s office guilty of misconduct and granted Hayden an opportunity for a new trial. Hayden’s lawyers have asked for dismissal of the charges.

Did anyone who knew Anthony or had contact with him in Corpus Christi around April 2014 see or hear anything that could help clarify what happened that night?
