Brenda Waggoner Kanady, 51, was found dead at her home in Baird, Texas, on April 20, 2014. Known locally as Brenda Ruth Holland, she worked as a waitress at Ruth’s Restaurant in Baird and was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church. She is remembered for her devotion to her daughters and grandchildren.

An investigation determined Brenda died from multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities identified 55-year-old Danny Mitchell Cannon as the primary suspect; reports said he had a prior relationship with Brenda and was considered armed and dangerous. Cannon evaded capture for several days before being taken into custody in Arkansas. In February 2015 Cannon pleaded guilty to Brenda’s murder and received a 30-year prison sentence.
