Erica Monique Gonzalez, a 33-year-old woman from Alice, Texas, was killed by a gunshot wound to the head on April 8, 2014. Born October 2, 1980, in Houston to Rene Gonzalez and Sulema Ruiz, she was a mother to five children. She was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital and declared brain dead.

The case remained unsolved for several years. In 2017 Rene Adan Villagran, age 33, was arrested and charged in connection with her death; he was held at the Jim Wells County Jail on bond set at $250,000. The Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers worked on leads that led to the arrest. Erica’s family honored her memory by donating her organs.
