I’ve been reading through the details of Jamie Smith’s case, and I just can't shake the thought of how this all went down right in our backyard. I've heard so many stories from folks in Kilgore who knew Jamie personally — they all say he was a true salt-of-the-earth kind of guy, always willing to lend a hand. It just makes the reality of what happened even harder to grasp. One aspect I find really puzzling is the involvement of the juveniles. I wonder how they got mixed up with someone like Edward James Hawthorne. It breaks my heart to think these kids were caught up in something so heinous. Does anyone know if there’ve been more details on their backgrounds or what led them to cross paths with Hawthorne? It's just so sad to think how this led to two lives being lost — Jamie's future was unfairly taken, and these youths’ lives are now changed forever. Thinking of Jamie’s family and everyone who knew him.
