On November 9, 2013, 17-year-old Morton Ranch High School student Queric Richardson was fatally shot during a house party in Cypress, Texas that had been promoted heavily on social media. The gathering, held to celebrate an 18th birthday, drew a large crowd and descended into chaos after gunfire broke out. Another 17-year-old, Arielle Olivia Shepherd, was also critically wounded and died after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office described the event as a birthday party gone wild. Randy Stewart, 18, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Richardson’s death after an initial arrest on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Marvin Stewart, 20, was charged with tampering with evidence and was not in custody at the time those charges were filed. Authorities continued to investigate whether additional gunmen were involved.
The community was left reeling by the deaths of Richardson and Shepherd and families called for measures to prevent similar tragedies. If anyone attended that party or has information about the shooting or other people involved, please share what can help the investigation.
