Clifton Leigh Taylor, 31, was killed on April 23, 2011, in Venus, Texas, while responding to a domestic disturbance. Deputies arrived a little after 4 pm and began searching the property for a male suspect. When Deputy Taylor opened the door to a shed, the suspect shot him. Taylor pushed his partner out of the way after being struck and was shot again. He was taken to a local hospital and died of his wounds.

Other deputies returned fire and killed the suspect at the scene. Clifton Taylor had served with the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office for three years and is survived by his fiancée, parents, and siblings. There were no further arrests or suspects in the case.
