Michael Goulbourne was 14 and working closing duties at a family-operated food stand when he was killed on the evening of Friday, May 8, 2009. The Normandy Middle School eighth grader was at the Mi Hungry barbecue stand in the 1200 block of North Kingshighway in St. Louis when a vehicle pulled into the lot around 8:30 p.m. Two to three unknown Black men exited, announced a robbery, and Michael and a 51-year-old co-worker handed over cash and jewelry. The robbers opened fire before leaving; Michael was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The co-worker was shot in the hand and treated at a local hospital and listed in stable condition.
The St. Louis Police Department investigated and the case remains an open, unsolved homicide with no arrests reported. Anyone who may have seen the robbery or recognizes the men who fled the scene is asked to come forward.
