Michell Sudderth Conrad, 35, of Pampa, Texas, was shot and killed on September 30, 2005, while six months pregnant. The attack took place in the Conrad family home when 23-year-old Levi King broke in after allegedly stealing firearms from his father’s house a few miles away. Michell’s husband Brian Conrad and their 14-year-old son Zach Doan were also killed. A 10-year-old daughter, Robin Doan, survived by pretending to be dead.
Levi King was arrested shortly after the killings and later pleaded guilty to capital murder in the deaths of Michell, Brian, and Zach. During court proceedings, testimony noted King had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia and had a background of emotional neglect and poverty. The case received national attention, including a CBS 48 Hours episode titled Live to Tell: Sole Survivor.
Michell was born October 1, 1969, in Grand Prairie, Texas, graduated from Pampa High School, worked for the Gray County Farm Bureau for ten years, and was active in 4-H and the Pampa Optimist Club. Her survivors include her mother Brenda Lamb, father Gary Sudderth, stepmother Sandra Sudderth, brother Mark Lamb, sister Melody Williams, and other family members. If anyone knew Michell or the family or has information about that night, please share what is known.
